What is KYBELLA®?

KYBELLA® is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment used to destroy fat cells under the chin to achieve an improved profile. This result is achieved over a through numerous injections underneath the chin and may require several treatments.

How Does KYBELLA® Work?

KYBELLA® uses a synthetic deoxycholic acid as its active ingredient. This type of acid is a naturally occurring molecule find within bile acid, whose function in the body is to break down and absorb dietary fat. When KYBELLA® is injected into the area beneath the chin it begins to destroy the fat cells hindering them from being able to store fat. Once you have reached your target profile you should no longer need KYBELLA® treatments.

Who is A Candidate for KYBELLA®?

Dr. Sim recommends that patients be 18 years or older and show moderate to severe fat underneath the chin. We do not recommend this procedure to patients who are currently pregnant or nursing, have difficulty swallowing, are suffering from a medical condition/infection near the injection site, or have had/will be getting facial surgery.

What Should I Expect During Treatments

During each treatment, you will be given multiple injections underneath your chin. The total time for each treatment is, on average, 15 minutes. The amount of fat underneath your chin, along with your desired profile outcome, will determine how many injections you will be receiving each treatment. Patients need to wait at least one month between treatments and should not receive more than a total of six treatments. The number of treatments will vary between patients and during your consultation Dr. Sim will go over how many are recommended for your specific case.

What Should I Expect After Treatment?

Most patients will notice bruising, swelling, and redness around the injection area; some patients even report numbness underneath the chin. If you experience weakness in your facial muscles, develop an uneven smile, or have difficulty swallowing please contact Family Dental Care immediately.
