What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is an injectable gel used to help patients gain a more youthful appearance. The gel is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler. The Juvéderm family has several products within it, each containing a set concentration of hyaluronic acid and bonding. Each product is made to target a specific area on the face, and all products are an injectable gel.

How Does Juvéderm Work?

Juvéderm adds volume to facial tissue by means of the active ingredient hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid stimulates the production of collagen and is naturally found within the human body. As we age, hyaluronic acid production begins to slow and collagen decreases resulting in the appearance of sagging/wrinkling skin. Each line in the Juvéderm family is comprised of a modified hyaluronic acid form.

Who is A Candidate for Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is intended for patients who are 21 years old or over. During your consultation, Dr. Sim will go over the results you are hoping to achieve to help determine with Juvéderm product will work best. We will also discuss your medical history, including any allergies or sensitivities you may have.

What Should I Expect During Treatments?

Juvéderm is a minimally invasive procedure that can take up to an hour to complete. We will first mark the treatment area and then Dr. Sim will begin the injections. We will also lightly massage the injection site after each one to help the Juvéderm distribute evenly, along with helping to reduce swelling. Treatment should be relatively painless due to the small of lidocaine found within each Juvéderm injection. After your appointment, you should be able to see the results immediately.

What Should I Expect After Treatment?

We advise our patients to avoid strenuous activity, wearing makeup, consuming alcohol, and reducing your exposure to the sun during the first 24 hours after your injections. Most patients will experience some swelling and bruising after treatment; other common side effects include tenderness, redness, itching, and minor pain. All side effects should clear up within four weeks of treatment.
