Dentures
What are Dentures?
Dentures are a common dental appliance created to replace missing teeth and the surrounding tissue. They are removable and are designed to look like your natural teeth. The two most popular types of dentures are full and partial. Dr. Sim will help you choose the best denture for your dental needs.
Getting Dentures
Getting dentures is not a dental procedure that can be completed in one appointment. Our patients will need to make numerous appointments until their dentures provide a comfortable fit. During your first appointment impressions of your teeth will be taken and then sued to create your dentures. Once your dentures arrive at our office we will have you come in and see how they fit, over the course of a few appointments we will ensure the fit and shape are comfortable.
What is the difference between dentures and partial dentures?
How Do Dentures Work?
Full dentures are comprised of two pieces, the upper and lower denture. The upper denture will cover the roof of your mouth while the lower denture will be fabricated in our horseshoe shape to allow your tongue to rest comfortably. Dr. Sim will work with you to determine the best type of denture.
Types of Dentures
- Conventional full dentures are placed once your mouth has fully healed. Patients will be without teeth during this time, which can last for several months.
- Immediate full dentures are able to be worn as soon as your remaining teeth are removed. These will need to be adjusted frequently to ensure a proper fit once healing is completed.
- Partial dentures are a removable alternative to bridges.
How Long Will Dentures Last?
Your dentures will need to be adjusted based on your normal wear. We recommend having your dentures checked yearly to ensure they are still fitting properly.
